NBA Playoffs Observations and Ramblings

After the extreme heartbreak of the Bulls season I have finally come to a place where I can talk about basketball and I am ready to give you what you have been craving. That’s right, my unsolicited opinion on the goings ons of people younger and more athletically talented than I am.

·         My goodness, Derrick Rose just appeared to be cursed this season. Nagging injuries slowing him down all year and the cherry on top of this crap Sunday was the tearing of his ACL. He’s a good kid and still a franchise player. I’ll admit when he went down the first name that came to mind was Penny Hardaway. Hopefully he doesn’t rush back and can come back healthy and not a cautionary tale for another generation.

·          I think I have to defend Lebron. See people think every time he has to take the last shot. He would if he had that Jordan mentality. Ever since he came into the league I have said he is more Magic than Jordan. More willing to pass to the open man than to be the guy who has to take the last shot. That said Lebron is still a douche.

·          Also Dwayne Wade has on the low become the dirtiest player in the league.

·

And did anybody else find it ironic that Wade was complaining about the Pacers celebrating? Really? Remember this Wade?

·            Nobody talking about the Spurs yet? Ok. Just what Pop wanted.

·            Vinny Del Negro is an awful basketball coach. As of right now all he does is look at Chris Paul and say “Chris…uh…” then Chris Paul gets angry and takes over. He’s not even needed.

·             Also what happened to Kendrick Perkins? That Blake Griffin dunk destroyed his soul.

Alright gang, that’s all I got for now, but expect more as the playoffs continue and of course my annual Mock Draft.

Here We Go Again...Part 1,329

Oh boy here we go again. It seems like I have write something like this every couple of weeks. A crotchety old person who has formed negative connotations against hip-hop and has yet to learn about the subject against what he rails then goes out to a vast audience and spouts some nonsense. In this case the crotchety old person in question is New York Post columnist Phil Mushnick. In case you hadn’t heard he is not that big a fan of Jay-Z being a minority owner of the soon to be Brooklyn Nets. And apparently he is an even smaller fan of the Jigga Man’s creative role in the franchise.

Before I get into the excerpt that is surely to get him into most trouble I’d like to ask why the hate my man? Is it a deep seated jealousy of Hov? He’s got a beautiful wife, hot career, new daughter, and a franchise he bought into is preparing to move into a new arena. That’s a lot to be jealous of.  Or is it that you’re intimidated by the hip hop generation growing up? Do you not think a black man can have a hand in something he invested in? I’m just confused.

I don’t know Mr. Mushnick, so I am not going to sit here and try to comment on what is in this guy’s heart. However I will comment on what spouted out of his mouth and that my internet  friends was some grade A baby back bullshit as my buddy Steve would say.

As long as the Nets are allowing Jay-Z to call their marketing shots -- what a shock that he chose        black and white as the new team colors to stress, as the Nets explained, their new "urban" home -- why not have him apply the full Jay-Z treatment? Why the Brooklyn Nets when they can be the New York N------s? The cheerleaders could be the Brooklyn B----hes or Hoes. Team logo? A 9 mm with hollow-tip shell casings strewn beneath. Wanna be Jay-Z hip? Then go all the way!”
This logo is dope!

So if it’s given the Jay-Z treatment the first name that pops in your head is the New York Niggas? Oops sorry Phil,  New York N------s. Are you calling Jay-Z a nigger? Also the cheerleaders would be the Brooklyn Bitches or Hoes? Huh? A 9 mm with shell casings as a logo? Are you serious sir? First and foremost this is highly disrespectful to a man who has worked pretty damn hard. Where were the Mushnick articles on Tim McGraw? How about Jon Bon Jovi? Or Russell Crowe? No. The only time he has a problem is when a black man is in the boardroom and not on the hard wood apparently.

I would hope someone who claims to be a journalist would not let his prejudices against either the hip hop culture or black men not slant his articles. Instead of relying on old stereotypes how’s about doing a little research and learning about the person who is not apparently smart enough in your eyes to pick the colors for basketball team.
